Giorgio Armani – Live Beauty Sketching

Hello lovelies,

As some of you may recall , if you saw my last post and /or on Instagram , this past Saturday , I sketched live with Giorgio Armani for their event at Saks Fifth Avenue, in Maryland. I sketched from 10:30 until 7 pm with a short break in between for a quick bite. Sketching beautiful people to music for 8 straight hours – nothing to complain about . It was a busy , fun filled energetic day as clients got their makeover done by celebrity make artist Tim Quinn and designer Jesus Estrada along with the Armani beauty team .

I was asked to create sketches of clients in about 15 minutes or less . I chose to do a mix of watercolors , ink and pens. I love doing the quick washes in watercolors and ink and refining it with pen. I started out doing 15 minute sketches , but as the day went by and it got busier in the afternoon . I had to hammer out sketches in less than 10 minutes. But, I love a challenge ¬†ūüôā

Here’s some of the behind the scenes look and some of the sketches at the event. Enjoy and I’d love to hear your thoughts !

And , thank you all for the support you’ve given me on this crazy journey of mine in the world of illustration. It almost seemed impossible when I started out, but reading your comments, emails and messages keeps me going . I truly value your support !

Cheers,

Laksh

Saree Seduction

Hello loves,

Hope you are having a great week so far. In our neck of the woods, we’ve had a weird weather. We went from cold to beautiful within a day. Yesterday started out gloomy and wet. Then there was a downpour for about half hour- and I’m talking about a deluge, trees threatening to fall over from the wind . I dropped off my son at school in all of this. The poor kid was soaking wet – as were the other kids in school. I came home drenched and cold. The umbrella and my rain jacket were pretty useless in all of this.

This was followed by a pretty gloomy morning . I guess, being wet and cold, prompted me to create something bright and cheerful . I went with watercolors and gel pens for this one. I remembered to take a few in progress shots of this illustration . It gives you an idea of how it all came together.

I used my Artist’s Loft watercolors for this illustration . It is available at Michaels – I love the brilliance of the colors . I recommend this set for those who’ve never used watercolors and would like to try it out.

I added the patterns and details on the sari and blouse with Sakura Micron Pens and gel pens. I used acrylic paint to bring out the shine and flare on the sari .

There she is – all done and sashaying away to some mysterious location . She’s available for purchase in different sizes on Etsy and on phone cases etc through Casetify.

Lakme Fashion Week 2016

Hello friends,

So much has happened since I last updated my blog. For now I want to update it with the sketches I did during Lakme Fashion Week held in March/April in my hometown – Mumbai.

I worked on these sketches using Copic Markers and Sakura Micron pens. No pencils were used in the making of these illustrations ! I went straight for the pens and markers.

Back to school !

Like I said, I have mixed feelings about back to school .The upside is definitely the routine and time factor. So , I jumped right in and started off the morning right with a cup of coffee and some whimsical sketching . Letting the pen flow in the quiet of the morning is very meditative . Before everyone is up and the morning rush to get to school takes over, I find that sketching/ painting/ drawing definitely gives me a sense of contentment as I start the day.

New phone case…

I’m excited ! I have a new phone. I have a new phone case. The phone case was designed by me. Hence the excitement !

Back in 2012, when I lived in Sydney, Australia, I sold my artwork through Etsy and my own website. In early 2013, I moved back to the U.S and I took a 2 year break from the online world of art , social media – except to keep in touch with friends and family.

Anyway, the artwork on my phone is from 2012 and is one of my favorites. The purple /mauve/plum background is acrylic paints and the leaves are digitally drawn. You’ll find it in my Society6 store that I had populated with some of my favorite designs back then.

While the iPhone case is pretty , I can’t say I have much of a future as a hand model !

Hello, June !

Can you believe it.. its June, already ? ! Its been so hot lately, that I’m thinking its time to head to the beach . My daughter liked this sketch and she’s named the girl June. So here’s June ūüôā

Hello, June ! (www.artbylaksh.wordpress.com)

I live at least 4 hours away from the nearest beach here in Virginia . If I had been in Sydney, not being at the beach was not an option on hot days , since it was just 40 minutes away.

I got swept away into swirls of doodles over the weekend. This would look great as a mural, don’t you think ?

Catching up

Here’s a bunch of stuff that I didn’t post over last week . A few weeks ago, I was in Canada. More on that later.. I think it deserves its own post.

But below are in progress shots of an illustration of the hop-on hop-off bus that we toured Toronto in.

This past week, I seemed to be lost in my travels. Fuchsia all the way from New Zealand , when we visited in 2011.  It must be the travel bug or I was looking for inspiration.

Cupcake illustration of a cupcake that I devoured from Prarie Girl Bakery, on King Street in Toronto , because , well, I like cupcakes. I also like drawing them, obviously.

Constantly evolving style

Every artist has their own style – one that keeps evolving. Mine has too. I always painted as a kid . Didn’t really have a preference then. After college, I took up oil painting. A few years ago , I was all about acrylic paints. Then I started to do a mix of acrylic and pen and then scanning it into photoshop/illustrator to play with it on the computer. I would like to do that again.

Lately, I am enjoying watercolors and pen. What makes me most happy is when I can combine the two . Its fun to let the watercolors do their own thing and then I can go in draw in lines, shades, doodles that I can control. What do I like to draw ? A lot of stuff. I tend to sketch and then want to go in a fill in with patterns, images , doodles. That seems to really be my thing .

Wake Cup – Inspired by my sleep t-shirt which says exactly that . I am like this many mornings if I have not worked out or had my cuppa !

What do you think is your style ? Has it evolved, changed ? Have you tried something that you’ve sworn off of only to discover that its actually the coolest thing ever ?
